BLAME SOCIETY FOR YOUR SUICIDAL DEPRESSION
Japanese writer
Wataru Tsurumi is under attack and facing
the censorship of his book The Complete Manual of Suicide.
The book has become a best-seller, but
authorities have linked it to various teenage suicides.
Tsurumi is unrepentant, and blames the
rigidity of Japanese society for the despair of youth.
"There is no concept of individuality in this
country," he says, and accuses the Japanese culture of being
stuck in the dark ages. "The modern era
starts when people reject "witch-huntism'. However, Japan
hasn't experienced a genuine transition from
pre-modern to modern." Until that time, he has some words of
advice: "Give up if the going gets too
tough. Sleep when you are sleepy." (The Independent)
EVEN SPEAKING BACKWARDS I'M STUPID
An interesting item was
sent to me last week by Jon Kelly, the
local master of Reverse Speech, who had posted some very
interesting tidbits regarding Gulf War 2 over
a month ago, well before the bombs starting dropping on
Iraq. In Kelly's analysis of George Bush's
inaugural address, he found that when you play that speech
backwards, George W. talks about a "super
Bush", who will "get someone" in a "mission of Baghdad."

PRODUCTIVITY IS WAY DOWN AMONG OUR DEAD EMPLOYEES
51-year-old George Turklebaum suffered a heart
attack and died sitting at his desk on a Monday morning, and
nobody realized he was dead until an
office cleaner found him still there the next Saturday. His
boss, Elliot Wachiaski, explained that
"George was always the first guy in each morning and the
last to leave at night so no one found it
unusual he was in the same position all that time and didn't
say anything. He was always absorbed in
his work and kept much to himself." So nice to know your
co-workers care. (Birmingham Mercury)
