SICK OF THE RAIN?

Ever wanted to learn cloudbusting? With this weather we're having, why not give it a shot? Don't miss your chance tonight (if tonight is Thur., June 15) at 10 p.m. on CFUN AM 1410. The guest on Coast to Coast is Neil Slade, whose research into stimulating the amygdala (two small energy switches in your brain, just inside the temples) through visualization has led to the discovery that, with proper concentration, humans can dissolve clouds. No, really. Check it out at www.neil.slade.net, and click on "Cloudbusting with Video Proof."

READ IT AND WEEP

Another new book has just been published that traces the history of secret societies on our planet, and exposes their manipulation of global finances, politics and wars. Rule by Secrecy, by Jim Marrs, is an encyclopedia of hidden knowledge and secret societiesincluding "public" political groups such as the Trilateral Commission, Council of Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergers, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the Round Table Group, and the Order of Skull and Bones - and ultra-rich families such as the Rockefellers, the Morgans, and the Rothschilds. "It is evident that...individuals connected by blood, titles, marriage or membership in secret societies have manipulated and controlled the destinies of entire nations through the fomenting and funding of war," Marrs writes, and urges everyone to check out these groups and their agendas. "It is a time for truth," he says, "about our past and our present, about who really rules and about what's being done to this planet in the name of progress and profit."

READ IT AND RETCH

Despite significant howls of protest, Amazon.com is continuing to sell a book that claims that men who have sex with young boys "are sincere, concerned, loving human beings who simply have - and were probably born with - a sexual orientation that is neither understood nor accepted by most others." David Riegel's book, Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers, tries to "debunk the myth" that it is harmful for young boys to have sex with grown men. Uggh. Amazon.com defends its right to sell the book, saying it "believes it is censorship not to sell certain books because we believe their message repugnant," adding that they will continue to sell the book unless prohibited by law. DEATH BY MOONING?

The London anarchist group Movement Against the Monarchy is planning a mass public "mooning" outside Buckingham Palace. Their goal is to greet the Queen with 2,000 bare butts. For some reason, London's police chief is beefing up security, saying "I think one of the royal family could at risk." (Reuters)

"ART" IMITATES "LIFE"

The makers of Ultima, a virtual role-playing game which has over 150,000 subscribers, are concerned about the rise in violence, organized crime and serial killers in their virtual world. Approximately 10 per cent of on-line gamers partake in "PKing," or player-killing. As one player boasted "I went out on a PKing/looting binge for a couple of days...I was making a fortune compared to what I used to get as an 'honourable' player." (Utne Reader)

CAN YOU SAY "ANOREXIA"

The British Medical Association has finally admitted what we all already knew. The BMA has issued a report that says "the degree of thinness exhibited by models chosen to promote products is both unachievable and biologically inappropriate." Though the report was afraid to state the obvious, it went on to imply that eating disorders are a direct result of the media's fixation with famished-looking stars, stating that a desire to be like the rich and famous is unhealthy for women "whose eating habits, body images and self-esteem can be adversely affected."
