THE FUTURE IS REALLY MESSED UP

Robert Ghost Wolf, a mixed-blood Native American who researches Mayan, Lakoda, Navajo, and Hopi prophecies will be in Vancouver doing a weekend workshop entitled Teachings of the Indigenous Masters on the Emergence of the Fifth World. The great thing about Ghost Wolf is that he's not afraid to make outrageous predictions, like when he warned that a three-day long solar eclipse would darken the Earth in 1998, or that "strange animals and insect, created by radioactive pollution, will appear in the deserts." Cool! Ah well, even if he's not always right, his heart's in the right place, and he's a fascinating speaker. Catch him April 28-30 at the Vancouver Planetarium.

SUBVERT THE ADVERTS

Global activists and culture jammers have launched a 250+ image-bank of anti-capitalist, anti-corporate, anti-consumerist and anti-environmental destruction "subvertisements." These images - many in the style of Adbusters ad parodies - are largely copyright-free and are meant to be downloaded and reprinted in newspapers, magazines and websites across the world (like these ads parodies of Marlboro and Suzuki). The site is meant as a forum for activists around the world with one main focus, "that people and the planet should be put before corporate profits." Check it out at www.subvertise.org

BRINGING DOWN THE BANKS

More corporate subversion can be found at www.whirledbank.org
, which takes the piss out of the unholy trinity of economics: the World Bank, the IMF and the WTO. Their slogan is "Our dream is a world full of poverty." The best part of this website is the on-line confessional, where you can confess to, among other things, exploiting natural resources, "resettling" people, downsizing jobs, or adding "unusual nutrients to the water or the air". Then, if you cough up enough dough, you'll be blessed 50 bucks will get you prayed for. A million bucks will get you straight into Heaven. Congratulations.

IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE

Paraguay's official anti-corruption chief has been charged with various forms of corruption, including bribery, extortion, forgery, tax evasion, conspiracy, and money laundering. He must be doing something right however, as in 1999 Paraguay was ranked as the world's 8th most corrupt nation, a vast improvement over its second place ranking in 1998. (Reuters)

IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?

Missouri's Secretary of state has approved language for a ballot initiative that would ask voters to approve a proclamation urging the U.S. Congress to end "the government cover up of the UFO experience." MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) is organizing a petition drive to get 75,000 signatures before May 7 in order to get the initiative on the ballot. (Paranormal News)
