HEAVY READING
Two new books have been published documenting the missing
evidence and unanswered questions of Sept. 11 and its aftermath. French
journalists Jean-Charles Brisard and Guillaume Dasquié have written Bin
Laden: The Forbidden Truth, which focuses on three issues: how the war
in Afghanistan has been in the planning stages for several years; how
George Bush blocked the FBI's investigation into bin Laden to protect
the Saudi royal family; and how the motivating force behind the war is
America's desire to build an oil pipeline through Afghanistan. Canadian
investigative journalist William Thomas has written a similar expose of
the motivations behind the war. In All Fall Down: The Politics of Terror
and Mass Persuasion, Thomas lays out the evidence that, in his words,
"there can be zero doubt that the attacks of Sept. 11 were foreseen and
facilitated by agents and agendas within the United States government."
You can read excerpts from All Fall Down at www.lifeboatnews.com, where
Thomas states: "I started from the only possible premise to insure its
accuracy, that there was no conspiracy, that the events explained by the
biggest broadcaster on this planet happened exactly as portrayed. I do
not believe that now."
INCOMING!
Golam Sediq, an unemployed Afghan engineer, is hoping the U.S.
will pay for repairs to his home after a crate of food packets crashed
through the roof of his home, almost killing his two-year-old son.
"We'll have to pay at least 20 time more to repair the damage than we
gain from the extra food," he said, adding that the Afghani people are
not sure if the so-called food (peanut butter and pop tarts) is fit for
human consumption. "We'll do a test and feed it to the chickens first
and then see if we can eat it," said his neighbour. (Reuters)
KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE! ENJOY!
As part of the Anthrax investigation, the
FBI is monitoring a man who wrote a book called Scientific Principles of
Improvised Warfare and Home Defense, which experts claim is a
"germ-warfare cookbook," and includes directions for making
mail-delivered Anthrax. The cover of his book says "if you can make
Jell-O, you can wipe out cities. Enjoy!" (NY Times)
BOMB BUILDING FOR DUMMIES
The BBC recently showed some video of
documents found on the floor of a Taliban recruitment center in Kabul
that seemed to be an instruction manual on how to build a thermonuclear
device. A closer inspection, however, has revealed that the documents
were copies of a satirical article written in 1979 called Weekend
Scientist: Let's Make a Thermonuclear Device, published by The Journal
of Irreproducible Results. The article lays out "ten easy steps" to
building your own nuclear bomb, including tips on how to obtain
weapons-grade plutonium from "your local terrorist organization." (New
Scientist)
CRAPPY COFFEE
The most expensive coffee in the world is the Kopi Luwak
brew, made from coffee berries which have been shat out by Indonesian
monkeys. Plantation workers pick through the monkey's dung in order to
harvest the berries, which pass through the animal's digestive system
pretty much intact. Many consider it the tastiest coffee available, and
experts guess that the coffee's journey through intestinal juices may
give it that unique "earthy" flavour. (Drudge Report)
WHO SAYS SATAN DOESN'T RULE THE EARTH?
South Africa is gripped in the
midst of a horrifying crisis as young children and babies are being
raped as a result of a myth that has spread claiming that sex with a
virgin will cure a man of AIDS. Police report 21,000 cases of child rape
or assault in the past year, with children under the age of three
commonly being abused. The most recent outrage had six men on trial for
rape a nine-month-old girl. (Reuters)
STICK IT TO THE FRANKENFOODS
Saturday, December 1 is the First National
Day of Labeling Actions in Canada, a day on which citizens will be
hitting the supermarkets and putting stickers on Genetically Modified
food. You can download your own stickers from www.labelthis.org, a site
which claims that 70 per cent of processed foods already contain
genetically engineered ingredients, and that laws are being enacted in
at least 32 countries which will require the mandatory labeling of GE
food.
