FOLLOW THE MONEY

As more and more journalists ask the question "who profits from America's New War?', some fascinating information is coming to light regarding connections between Bush Jr. & Sr., the CIA, drugs and drug money, and of course, the role of "big oil" in this lastest manufactured war. Don't take my word for it, hit the internet for dozens of articles pointing to the real reason why the Taliban is being destroyed. Could it possibly have anything to do with control of the world's largest supply of opium and an estimated five trillion dollars worth of oil sitting under the Caspian Sea? Gee, I don't know. You decide. Start here: America's New Lie

NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF

In a letter to the British Medical Journal, researchers from the UK, U.S., and Australia warn that the fear of biological weapons will probably create more illnesses in the future than the weapons themselves. They explain that a "general level of malaise, fear and anxiety may remain high for years, exacerbating pre-existing psychiatric disorders and further heightening the risk of mass sociogenic illness." Two examples of mass paranoia causing illness have already been reported: a "bioterrorism" scare caused by paint fumes at a Washington state school sent 16 students and teachers to the hospital, and 35 people reported nausea, headache and sore throats caused by a liquid sprayed in a Maryland subway station, which turned out to be a window cleaner. SPEAKING WITH THE DEAD

A 70-year-old French Catholic clergyman with degrees in Latin, Greek, and philosophy, and who speaks 15 languages, claims to have thousands of accounts of tape recorded messages from the dead. Father Francois Brune has been studying "Trans-Instrumental Communication" since the 1950's, and he claims to have incontrovertible evidence that "the dead speak and can be taped." All you need, he claims, is a tape recorder and blank tape, then ask the dead person of your choice a question. Allow 30 seconds or so for a response, and you will usually hear "whispers that are hard to understand." Occasionally, however, you will hear answers as clear as through a telephone. Good luck! SPEAKING WITH THE DEAD, PART 2

If you really want to talk to the dead, head on over to the John Lennon Artificial Intelligence Project at www.triumphpc.com where you can ask questions of a computer that is programmed to answer your questions in the style of John Lennon. Sounds intriguing, but as usual, reality is a bit less-than-inspiring. When I asked John Lennon if I could have sex with Yoko Ono, he answered "What did you have for lunch?" Charming, even in death.

CALLING ALL GHOSTS

An expert in occult phenomena claims that the increase in cell phone use over the last 15 years is seriously affecting visitations by ghosts. Tony Cornell, of the Society for Psychical Research, claims that the electronic noise produced by cell phone calls may be drowning out the electrical activity surrounding paranormal events. Ghost sightings have remained consistent for centuries, Cornell claims, but in the past three years sightings have dropped dramatically. (Sunday Express)

WAITING FOR THE DEAD

The Philippine capital of Manila is working on legislation to ban funeral parlor salesmen from hospitals and clinics, claiming that salesmen have been loitering in hospital lounges waiting for patients to die, and stating that "the ordinance would serve as a measure to protect families and individuals from the disgusting practice of some funeral parlors, who through their agents, offer their services even if hospitalized relatives are still alive," (Philippine Star)

CAREFUL WITH THAT STAPLER, EUGENE

Figures released by the Department of Trade and Industry in conjunction with European Week for Safety reveals that calculators caused 37 office injuries last year, rubber bands hurt 402 people, and staplers caused 1,317 injuries. As well, 18 workers were harmed by hole punches, and correction fluid was responsible for 91 workplace accidents. (UPI)

THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR

Sandra Miranda, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, has been charged with fraud after running up $4,600 in purchases using the credit card of her best friend, who had died in the WTC disaster. Police claim that Miranda pinched the card from her dead friend's apartment after going to look after her cats after Sept. 11. (NY Daily News)
